Anisotropic Ballistic Transport Revealed by Molecular Nanoprobe Experiments

چکیده
Atomic-scale charge transport properties are not only of significant fundamental interest but also highly relevant for numerous technical applications. However, experimental methods which capable detecting at the single-digit nanometer length scales scarce. Here we report on molecular nanoprobe (MONA) experiments Pd(110) where utilize carrier-driven switching a single cis-2-butene molecule to detect ballistic over few nanometers. Our data demonstrate striking angular dependence with dip in along [1-10]-oriented atomic rows and peak transverse [001] direction. The narrow width both features distance-dependent measurements suggest that nanometer-scale metallic surfaces is significantly influenced by structure.

Ballistic anisotropic magnetoresistance.
Electronic transport in ferromagnetic ballistic conductors is predicted to exhibit ballistic anisotropic magnetoresistance-a change in the ballistic conductance with the direction of magnetization. This phenomenon originates from the effect of the spin-orbit interaction on the electronic band structure which leads to a change in the number of bands crossing the Fermi energy when the magnetizati...
متن کاملSpin Transport Goes Ballistic
The circuits in today’s computers, cell-phone cameras, and many other electronic devices rely on the manipulation of electronic charges via CMOS technology—transistors built from a combination of “complementary” metal, oxide, and semiconductor materials. A promising “beyond-CMOS” technology [1] is spintronics, in which information is carried by spin instead of charge. Spintronics devices could ...

The protection against backscattering provided by topology is a striking property. In two-dimensional insulators, a consequence of this topological protection is the ballistic nature of the one-dimensional helical edge states. One demonstration of ballisticity is the quantized Hall conductance. Here we provide another demonstration of ballistic transport, in the way the edge states carry a supe...
